The Greek island of Santorini is stunning! Ships must anchor in the caldera of the still active volcano which is in the sea. The rim of the volcano is what forms the sheer cliffs of the island. The only way to get to the island is by riding boats to a small pier and then take a cable car up the mountain to the village of Fira or to ride donkeys (actually mules!) up a stone pathway to the village. We took the mules.

Michelle organized a diving/snorkeling excursion on Santorini through a local dive shop. They picked us up in the village of Fira and drove us to their dive station at Caldera Beach. We got outfitted and then took a boat out to the Volcano island. Mike went diving with several other divers while Michelle and Emma went snorkeling in the sea. Once everyone was back on board the boat we went back to Caldera Beach. Mike did his second dive from the beach while Michelle and Emma ate lunch at the charming little cafe next to the dive station. Once Mike finished his dive, the dive shop drove us back to Fira. The line to ride the cable cars was so long that we decided to walk down the donkey (mule!) path back to the pier to catch the boat to the ship. It was quite an adventure!
