In 1926, Fred Ewing (age 19) and Carl Anderson (age 20) won the Caltech Junior Travel Prize for a six-month trip to Europe. They voyaged to Europe on a ship sailing from New York. While in Europe, they visited Paris, Rome, Venice, Athens, and flew in a small plane.
